Each movement skill is divided into 3 learning phases that progress from simple ( exploring and discovering) through to more complex ( practising and improving), (mastering and applying). Each child will be at a different phase depending on their development, experience and maturity.
Beginner- explore and discover
In this phase children will develop a rough idea of how to perform movement skills. With basic fundamentals exercises being the main focus
Intermediate- practise and improve
In this phase, children need encouragement to focus their efforts on genuine skill improvement. They will refine their skills through repetition and practice in a variety of contexts.
Mature- apply and master
By this time children will have learnt many fundamentals movement skills and execute them without thinking about it, by this time, movement skills would become “natural”.
